Well. This is my first blog and I am nervous as anything. We had a quick exercise in using Light and Shadows to give us some ideas on what direction we should take. My tutor asked us to look at László Moholy-Nagy's exhibition's website at San Francisco's Museum of modern art. There was some interesting play in light and shadows that was achieved by him during the 1920-40's.
As this was a quick exercise I used my phone as a camera and played around with various kitchen utensils and pieces of coloured paper in a darkened kitchen. I used my mini lamps that came from a mini studio that I purchased from e-bay for about 20 pounds. The above photo I used a collider and shone one of the mini lamps through the collider so, the light would hit a spoon at an angle and took the photo at the desired angle to come up with this effect.
The last photograph I did find partially difficult (but not the reason that most people think). I used an old coca cola cup (that was purple) that I filled with water and a orange piece of paper. The hard part for me was to hold one of the mini lamps with one hand so, the light came through the desired effect that I wanted to project whilst trying to take a picture on my phone with the other hand at the same time. It took several attempts but I got there at the end.
Overall, I found the whole event enjoyable even though at first I was scratching my head for ideas. Once I got into it, the ideas started to flow.
